Installation and setup

  • CS-Cart or Multi-Vendor 4.17.2 or later (Ultimate editions included).
  • Administrator access to the store’s admin panel. The store must be reachable over https from the internet: Mercado Pago only accepts https return and notification addresses.
  • A Mercado Pago seller account in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru or Uruguay. You use your own account; payments go straight to it.
  • The local currency of that country in your store (Administration > Currencies): as the primary currency or as a second currency with an exchange rate.
  • A cron job on your server (see step 8 below).
  1. Download the kv_mercado_pago-<version>.zip package from your Kavio Labs or CS-Cart Marketplace account.
  2. In the admin panel, open Add-ons > Manage add-ons.
  3. Click the gear button and choose Manual installation, then upload the archive.
  4. Find Mercado Pago Payments in the list and make sure its status is Active.
  5. Enter your license key under Settings > License (Kavio Labs downloads) and click Check now.

Create your Mercado Pago application (once)

Section titled “Create your Mercado Pago application (once)”

These steps happen in your own Mercado Pago account, at mercadopago.com/developers > Your integrations:

  1. Click Create application. Choose the payment product for an online store with Checkout Pro. Mercado Pago creates the application and a test seller account with test credentials.
  2. Open the application > Test credentials (accept the terms if asked): copy the test Public Key and the test Access Token.
  3. Open Test accounts and create a Buyer test account in the same country. You will pay with it during the test.
  4. When you are ready to go live: Production credentials > Activate credentials (industry and your store’s website), then copy the production Public Key and Access Token.
  5. Optional but recommended: Webhooks > Configure notifications. Enter the notification address shown on the add-on’s Connection page, tick the Payments event, save, then click to reveal the secret signature and copy it. With it, the add-on checks that every signed notification really comes from Mercado Pago. (Without it, payments still work: every payment sends its own notification address, and the add-on reads each payment back from Mercado Pago.)
  1. Open Orders > Mercado Pago (the add-on page) and the Connection tab, or Add-ons > Manage add-ons > Mercado Pago Payments > Settings and click Connection.
  2. Choose the country of your Mercado Pago account. It decides the currency the checkout charges in.
  3. Choose Test mode, enter the test Public key, the test Access token and (if you created it) the secret signature. Click Save and test: a green message listing the account’s payment methods means the credentials work.
  4. Open Administration > Payment methods, add a method, choose the processor Mercado Pago and activate it. Optional: a title for the Mercado Pago page, the text on the buyer’s card statement (13 characters), maximum installments, payment types to hide, days to pay vouchers and Pix, and instant approval only (binary mode).
  5. Test in a private browser window: place an order, pay on the Mercado Pago page signed in with the test buyer account, using Mercado Pago’s test cards. Try a cash voucher too: the order becomes Open and the customer sees the voucher link. Then refund from the order page.
  6. Switch to Live mode, enter the production credentials, click Save and test again.
  7. Mercado Pago charges its own fees on each payment; check the rates for your country in your Mercado Pago account.
  8. Add the cron job from the settings page (Cron section), every 5 minutes is fine. It finishes refunds that need a retry and reads back pending payments whose notification was lost (vouchers are checked for 35 days).
  • Marketplace owner mode (default): the marketplace owner connects one Mercado Pago account and all orders are paid to it; vendor payouts are handled by Multi-Vendor (commissions and payouts) as for any other payment method. A cart with products of several vendors is one Mercado Pago payment; each vendor order shows it and can refund only its own share.
  • Owner mode off: each vendor connects their own Mercado Pago account on the Connection page of the vendor panel, and receives the payments of their orders. Mercado Pago is then offered for carts with products of one vendor (whose account is connected); a cart with products of several vendors shows the store’s other payment methods.
  1. Upload the new package the same way, over the installed add-on (or use the Upgrade Center). Your settings, credentials and data are kept.
  2. The add-on adds missing tables and settings by itself on the first admin page after the update.

See the CHANGELOG for what changed in each version.

Open Add-ons > Manage add-ons, click the add-on’s gear button and choose Uninstall.

  • Uninstall keeps your payment records. The Mercado Pago transactions, payments and refunds, queued refunds, the connection (stored credentials) and the settings (including the license key) stay in the database; only the add-on’s texts and the log are removed. The payment methods are disabled while the add-on is uninstalled. Installing the add-on again picks everything up: the payment methods are linked and enabled again as they were, and you can refund older orders from the order page as before.
  • Delete everything: finish open refunds, export what you need, tick Permanently delete all payment records on uninstall in the add-on settings, save, and uninstall. If the add-on is already uninstalled, install it, tick the setting and uninstall again.
