Usage

Axle reads vehicle fitment from one standard product feature, so you manage it in the normal product screens and with the standard product import.

  1. Products → Features: a feature Fits vehicles (feature code AX_FITS), type Multiple checkboxes. The demo content creates it; you can also use your own feature named “Fits vehicles”, “Vehicle fitment” or “Fitment”.

  2. Add one variant per vehicle, named Make · Model · Engine · Years, for example:

    • Corvan · Lumo · 1.2 Petrol · 2016-2020
    • Halden · Tarn · 2.5 Hybrid · 2022- (a year range without an end runs to the current year)
    • Orrin · Pell · 2019 (the engine is optional; a single year is fine)

The separator is · or |. Make and model are required; the engine and years are recommended.

  3. On every vehicle-specific product, tick the vehicles it fits (or import them: the feature value of a multiple feature in the product import is a list of variants).

  4. Products → Filters: a filter on Fits vehicles (the demo creates “Fits vehicle”). With the filter, the garage finder and the vehicle bar open the category or search page filtered to the vehicle; without it they use the product search with the feature value. Axle hides this filter in the sidebar because the vehicle bar drives it.

  5. Universal parts (oils, care, tools, accessories): tick the checkbox feature Universal fit (AX_UNIVERSAL); their cards say “Universal fit” for every vehicle.

What shoppers see:

  • Garage finder: steps 1 Make → 2 Model → 3 Year → 4 Engine (each list only offers what exists; a single choice is selected automatically), then Find parts opens every part that fits.
  • My garage (header, phone bottom bar): choose, change or remove the vehicle. It is saved in the browser only.
  • Cards: “Fits your Lumo” (green), “Not listed for your Lumo” (amber outline) or “Universal fit”; without a saved vehicle “Fits N vehicles”.
  • Category and search pages: the vehicle bar (“Show only parts that fit” / “Show all parts”).
  • Product page: the fitment check under the add button and the Vehicle fitment table with the saved vehicle highlighted.

The theme prints only catalogue data into the page (FPC-safe); the comparison with the saved vehicle happens in the browser.

  • The product code is the part number; it shows next to the brand on cards and product pages and the search finds it (the core search with “search in product code”).
  • OE numbers (AX_OE, text feature): comma-separated original-equipment and cross-reference numbers. They show as chips next to the fitment table. Put them into the full description too (as the demo does) so the search finds them.
  • Brand (AX_BRAND, select) and Position (AX_POS, select) show on cards; Position, Diameter, Viscosity, Volume, Rim size and Season are “shown in product lists” and appear as spec chips.

The Tyre size tab of the finder uses the select features Tyre width (AX_TYRE_W), Aspect ratio (AX_TYRE_AR) and Rim size (AX_RIM), with product filters on them; it opens the category that holds most tyres with the chosen filters. Season (AX_SEASON) and Load / speed index (AX_LOAD) complete the specifications.

Marketing → Banners: graphic banners in the block “Axle hero” (the slider) and “Axle promos”. The banner name is the headline; on the banner page the theme adds an eyebrow, a lead text, button labels, a second button and “darker scrim”. Use wide studio images with the product on the right (the copy sits on the left, over a dark gradient).

  • Shop by system lists the first-level categories (tiles with the category image, the part count and three subcategories).
  • Deals of the week shows products on sale; catalog promotions with an end date show a countdown on the card.
  • Complete the job on product pages offers up to two popular parts of the same system from other subcategories that fit the same vehicles (or are universal), added in one go. Stores running the Kavio Frequently Bought Together add-on get that add-on’s block instead.

The blog block “Garage guides” shows the three newest posts as cards with their images.
