Configuration

Open Add-ons → Manage add-ons → Shipping Protection → Settings. On CS-Cart Ultimate choose a storefront first: every storefront has its own settings.

Setting What it does
Offer shipping protection at checkout Shows the box. Off: no new protected orders; existing orders and claims stay.
Fee type Percent of the product value, Tiers by product value or Fixed amount.
Percent For the percent type, for example 3 for 3%.
Fixed amount For the fixed type, in the primary currency.
Tiers For the tiers type. One line per tier: product value from = fee. The fee is an amount or a percent. The highest line the cart reaches wins. Example below.
Minimum fee / Maximum fee Limits for every fee type. 0 = no limit.
Offer from a product value of The box appears only when the products that ship are worth at least this much.
Taxes on the fee The fee is taxed with these taxes, like a product. Leave empty for an untaxed fee.
Box state when the page opens Unchecked for every customer (default) or Checked, except for the countries below.
Never pre-check for these countries Two-letter codes of shipping countries where the box always starts unchecked. Default: the 27 EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
Protection terms page URL Optional link “How it works” in the box, for example to a CMS page that explains the cover.

Example tiers:

0 = 1.95
75 = 2.95
150 = 4.95
300 = 2%

A $60 cart pays 1.95, a $90 cart 2.95, a $400 cart 2% = 8.00.

The fee base is the value of the products that ship: downloadable products without shipping and gift certificates are left out. Shipping costs are not part of the base.

In the EU and the EEA (Consumer Rights Directive, article 22) and in the UK (Consumer Contracts Regulations, regulation 40) a payment on top of the main price needs the customer’s express consent, which a pre-ticked box does not give. That is why the box is unchecked by default and never pre-checked for addresses in the country list. Check the rules of the countries you sell to before you switch on pre-checking; this is not legal advice.

The default for the country applies only on the checkout page where the box is visible, and only until the customer touches the box: after that their choice wins. When the customer changes the shipping country without touching the box, the default of the new country applies.

Setting What it does
Customers can file claims Shows the claim form on the order page.
Claim period Days after the order date. Default 30.
Order statuses that allow a claim Default Processed and Complete. Add your “Shipped” or “Delivered” status if you use one.
Photos per claim 0 to 10, default 5. Each photo up to 10 MB (JPEG, PNG, WebP or GIF).
Multi-Vendor: vendors resolve claims of their orders Off: vendors see the claims of their orders read-only. On: they can decide them.

All texts of the box and the claim form are language variables starting with kv_shipping_protection. (Administration → Languages → Translations), for example kv_shipping_protection.box_lead for the sentence in the box.

The fee is calculated once for the whole cart and split over the vendor orders in proportion to their product value, so the vendor orders add up to the parent order. Each vendor order counts in the report; parent orders are left out. Vendor payouts follow the order totals as with any surcharge.

Settings are per storefront. The claim queue and the report show the selected storefront, or all storefronts when none is selected.
