Video file link Any http(s) link that ends in .mp4, .m4v, .webm or .ogv
Uploaded file mp4, m4v, webm, ogv. Files are stored in images/kv_product_videos/<product_id>/

A start time in a YouTube link (t=1m30s or start=90) or a Vimeo link (#t=30s) is kept.

Large files are often easier to upload by FTP into the store’s file area. Then pick them with the Server button of the uploader. A file picked from the server is copied, and the original stays where it is.

  • Change titles, positions, statuses or links in the table, then click Save.
  • Click the trash icon of a row and save to delete the video. This also deletes its preview image and uploaded file.
  • Tick Delete image to remove a preview image, or upload a new one to replace it.
  • If you change the link of a YouTube or Vimeo video, the preview image is refreshed from the new video unless you upload your own image at the same time.

A title is saved for the content language selected at the top of the product page. A new video gets the same title in all languages. To translate it, switch the content language and save the translated titles.

  • Product page. Video thumbnails with a play icon appear in the thumbnail strip, and the video occupies the main image area. Pressing play loads the player. Switching to another slide stops the video. For self-hosted videos the browser’s native player is used, with controls and full screen.
  • Quick view. The same gallery appears, unless you turned it off.
  • Videos tab. If enabled, the tab shows a grid of players with titles.
  • Product lists. A play icon marks products with videos. With hover preview on, the first video plays muted while the mouse is over the image.
  • Search engines. Each product page has VideoObject structured data. You can test it with Google’s Rich Results Test.

The add-on adds a Videos column to the products pattern. This affects:

  • Administration → Export data → Products
  • Administration → Import data → Products
  • Products → Advanced import (map your column to Videos)

Separate the videos with ///. Each video is URL, optionally followed by |Title, and optionally by |D for a disabled video:

https://youtu.be/aqz-KE-bpKQ|Product overview///https://vimeo.com/22439234///https://cdn.example.com/demo.mp4|Unboxing|D

Export writes uploaded files as their full public URL, for example https://example.com/images/kv_product_videos/12/clip.mp4.

  • An empty cell leaves the product’s videos unchanged.
  • A cell with only - removes all videos of the product.
  • Otherwise the list replaces the product’s videos:
    • Existing videos are matched by URL. A YouTube or Vimeo video is matched by its ID, whatever link format you use. Their preview images and the titles in other languages are kept.
    • The order in the cell becomes the position.
    • Videos missing from the list are deleted.
    • A video without |D becomes active.
  • The title is saved in the language of the row. If you import several languages, put the same URLs in each language row and translate only the titles.
  • New YouTube/Vimeo videos get their preview image and title automatically, if that setting is on.
  • Maximum videos per product is respected. Extra videos are skipped.
  • In Multi-Vendor, vendors can import videos only for their own products, and only if vendors are allowed to manage videos.
  • Clone (Products → gear → Clone): the copy gets all videos with their titles in every language and their preview images. Uploaded files are copied as well.
  • Delete: the product’s videos, preview images and uploaded files are removed.
  • Vendors see the Videos tab when they edit their products in the vendor panel. They see it only if Allow vendors to manage videos of their products is on.
  • Vendors cannot change videos of other vendors’ products. This is checked both by core and by the add-on.
  • If the Vendor data premoderation add-on is active, a vendor’s product changes follow your premoderation settings. This includes video changes.
  • Common products (Master products add-on): videos belong to the product they are added to. Videos added to the common product are shown on the common product page.
