FAQ

How is this different from gift certificates and reward points?

Section titled “How is this different from gift certificates and reward points?”

Gift certificates are codes a customer buys or receives; reward points are a discount earned in points. Store Credit Wallet is a balance per customer account: refunds, cashback and your credits go into it, and the customer spends it at checkout without a code. It works alongside both core add-ons.

Are taxes and promotions calculated on the full price?

Section titled “Are taxes and promotions calculated on the full price?”

Yes. Store credit works like a gift certificate: CS-Cart calculates the order as usual, then the store credit is taken off the total. Taxes, discounts and the invoice items stay the same; the order total is what the payment method charges.

Can customers pay the whole order with store credit?

Section titled “Can customers pay the whole order with store credit?”

Yes, if the balance covers it and “Highest share of an order total payable with store credit” is 100. The order then needs no payment method.

Only if you want it to: cashback can expire after a set number of days, and you can set an expiry date when you add credit. Refunds and returned credit never expire. Customers get a reminder before credit expires.

What happens when an order paid with store credit is cancelled?

Section titled “What happens when an order paid with store credit is cancelled?”

The store credit returns to the wallet automatically when the order reaches one of the “return” statuses (default Canceled, Declined, Failed). Cashback of that order is reversed. The part paid with money is refunded the way you refund payments, or to store credit (by hand or automatically, see the settings).

Only in two cases: you allow it when you deduct credit, or a cancelled order is reopened after the customer spent the returned credit. A negative balance cannot pay at checkout; the next credit covers it first.

Can customers top up their wallet with money?

Section titled “Can customers top up their wallet with money?”

Only if you enable top-ups (off by default). A balance customers pay into can count as stored value or electronic money in some countries. Store credit from refunds, cashback and your own credits is not affected by this. Check the rules for your business before enabling top-ups.

Does the invoice show the store credit used?

Section titled “Does the invoice show the store credit used?”

Not by itself. The order total on the invoice is the amount charged by the payment method. To print a line such as “Paid with store credit: $10.00”, add {{ kv_wallet.text }} to your invoice template in Design, Documents (see the developer guide for all variables).

Can customers transfer store credit to someone else or withdraw it as cash?

Section titled “Can customers transfer store credit to someone else or withdraw it as cash?”

No. Store credit can only be spent in your store.

The store credit of an order with several vendors is shared between the vendor orders exactly. Like gift certificates, vendor payouts count the vendor order total after store credit; the marketplace settles the store credit part with the vendor. An export lists the store credit used per vendor order.

Yes, through a small PHP API (fn_kv_customer_wallet_credit()), for example for loyalty or referral rewards. See Developer notes.

No. The balance is only shown on the account page and at checkout, which the full page cache of CS-Cart 4.21 never caches.

What happens to the wallet when a customer is deleted?

Section titled “What happens to the wallet when a customer is deleted?”

The wallet and its history are deleted with the customer. Orders keep their store credit lines.

The store’s primary currency. Customers see their balance and the amounts converted to the currency they selected; an amount typed at checkout is converted back.

The wallets, the ledger, the cashback rules, the settings, language variables, e-mail templates, privileges and run marks. All customer balances are lost, so export them first. Orders are never changed.

Without a valid license (no key after the 14-day start period, an invalid or revoked key, a domain the license does not cover, or no successful check for 14 days), customers can no longer pay with store credit and no new cashback is earned. Balances, the history, cancelled orders giving their credit back, refunds to the wallet and your credits keep working. Once the license is valid again, everything is back.

Open Add-ons → Manage add-ons → Store Credit Wallet → Settings → License. The status line says what is wrong: no key, a key for another add-on, a revoked license, or a domain that the license does not cover. Fix it and click Check now. See License.

Yes. Subdomains of your licensed domain (for example staging.yourstore.com) and local development hosts (localhost, private IP addresses, *.local, *.test) are covered by the same license.

What happens if your license server is down?

Section titled “What happens if your license server is down?”

Nothing changes for 14 days: the add-on keeps working and retries every hour. Only if no check succeeds for 14 days is it switched off until the next successful check.

Does the license check slow down my storefront or checkout?

Section titled “Does the license check slow down my storefront or checkout?”

No. The check runs in the admin panel or from cron, once a day. The storefront never runs it.
