SEO Meta Templates: overview1 of 14
What it does
In CS-Cart the page title, meta description and keywords are typed by hand for every object. Imported and large catalogs leave them empty, so search results show bare names and cut text. SEO Meta Templates builds this meta from templates such as "Buy {product} by {brand} | {store}". It covers products, categories, brand pages, vendor pages and CMS pages, keeps the meta you wrote yourself and fills only the gaps. For CS-Cart, CS-Cart Ultimate and Multi-Vendor 4.17.2 to 4.21.
How it works
The administrator adds templates under Website, SEO meta templates: one per page type, optionally per category, brand feature, storefront or language. Variables include product, brand, price, category, SKU, vendor, feature values, lowest price and product count; fallbacks and optional text keep the result clean. A live preview shows the result on any sample object. When a page is shown, the template fills the empty fields; Override mode replaces entered meta. A bulk fill can store the result, and every run can be undone.

Templates for the page title, meta description and meta keywords of products, categories, brand pages, vendor pages (Multi-Vendor) and CMS pages / blog posts.
Variables (product, category, parent category, brand, price, SKU, vendor, feature values by name, lowest price, product count, page number, store, year, descriptions), fallbacks and optional text with clean-up of separators.
Scopes per category (with subcategories), brand feature, storefront and language; the most specific template wins per field.
Apply modes "Only when empty" (default) and "Override"; length limits with cutting on a word boundary.
Live preview on a sample object, meta audit (empty, too long, duplicate), batched bulk fill of empty fields with undo per run.
Coexistence with the core SEO add-on and SEO Pro Suite (one title and description; social cards follow the generated values); full page cache safe.
Domain-bound licence check and self-healing upgrades.
Tested on Multi-Vendor 4.17.2, CS-Cart 4.17.2, Multi-Vendor 4.21.2. First release.
Will it overwrite the meta I wrote by hand?
No. Templates use Only when empty by default: an object's own title, description and keywords always win. Only a template you set to Override replaces them, and even then only on the storefront; the stored values stay. The bulk fill writes empty fields only.
Do I have to run the bulk fill?
No. Templates fill empty fields every time a page is shown. The bulk fill only stores the result, for feeds, exports or other tools that read the fields.
What happens when a title is too long?
Generated titles are kept to 60 characters and descriptions to 155 (adjustable in the settings). A title first drops its optional [...] parts, then it is cut on a word boundary; descriptions end with "…". The meta you entered yourself is never shortened; the audit lists it when it is too long.
Does it work with the core SEO add-on and with SEO Pro Suite?
Yes. The core SEO add-on (SEO URLs, canonical, hreflang, structured data) is not touched. SEO Pro Suite builds its Open Graph and Twitter titles and descriptions from the values this add-on sets, so there is no duplicate or conflicting tag.
Can I use a different template for one category?
Yes. Add a product or category template with that category as scope. It applies to the category and its subcategories and can change only one field, for example just the title.
Which price does {price} show?
The base price for all customers at quantity 1, in the store's primary currency, without catalog promotions. It is the same for every visitor, which keeps the page cache correct.
Does it work with the full page cache of CS-Cart 4.21?
Yes. The generated meta depends only on the page, never on the visitor, and changes to templates or products update the cached pages.
What happens if the license lapses?
Without a valid license (no key after the 14-day start period, an invalid or revoked key, a domain the license does not cover, or no successful check for 14 days), templates are no longer applied on the storefront and the bulk fill is unavailable. Pages show the meta you entered per object and the core defaults; meta already written by the bulk fill stays. Your templates are kept, and once the license is valid again everything is back.
The admin panel shows a license notice.
Open Add-ons → Manage add-ons → SEO Meta Templates: the License card at the top says what is wrong: no key, a key for another add-on, a revoked license, or a domain that the license does not cover. Fix it on the License tab and click Check now. See License.
Does the add-on work on my staging copy?
Yes. Subdomains of your licensed domain (for example staging.example.com) and local development hosts (localhost, private IP addresses, .local, .test) are covered by the same license.
What happens if your license server is down?
Nothing changes for 14 days: the add-on keeps working and retries every hour. Only if no check succeeds for 14 days is it switched off until the next successful check.
Does the license check slow down my storefront?
No. The check runs only in the admin panel or from cron, at most once a day, never while customers browse.
