What it does
Instant Live Search replaces the plain search of CS-Cart and Multi-Vendor with a search-as-you-type dropdown and a smarter results page. Shoppers see products with image, price and stock, plus matching categories, brands, pages and vendor stores while they type. Typos, synonyms and product codes are understood, and results are ranked by relevance. For any store whose customers use the search box: catalogs with thousands of products, marketplaces and shops where shoppers search by SKU.
How it works
Install the add-on
It builds its own search index (in steps for large catalogs) and keeps it current when products, categories, pages and vendors are saved; a cron command picks up imports. The dropdown attaches to the standard search box of your theme and works with the keyboard and screen readers. The results page uses the same ranking while filters, sorting and pagination keep working. In Products, Instant search you manage synonyms and stop words, test searches in a preview and read the analytics.

Search-as-you-type dropdown (WAI-ARIA combobox, keyboard navigation) with products (image, price, old price, stock, optional SKU and vendor), categories, brands, pages and vendor stores; recent and popular searches; popular products when nothing is found.
Own search index in the store database: field weights, accent folding, hyphen/SKU normalisation, synonyms (equivalent and one-way), stop words, typo tolerance (trigram candidates + edit distance), partial matches, exact SKU boost, popularity boost.
Index upkeep: build on install for small catalogs, step-wise rebuild with progress in the admin panel, incremental hooks for products, categories, pages, brands and vendors, cron update and full rebuild.
Results page integration: the same ranking for the standard search results page with "Sort by Relevance"; filters, sortings and pagination kept; typo note and no-results fallback. Option to keep the standard CS-Cart search.

How is this different from the standard CS-Cart search?
The standard search finds products whose texts contain the typed letters exactly and lists them in catalog order, without suggestions while typing. This add-on adds the as-you-type dropdown, finds products despite typos, understands synonyms and product codes, ranks results by relevance on the results page and shows what customers search for.
Do I need an external search service or an API key?
No. The index is a set of tables in your own database and the search runs inside your store. Nothing is sent to a third party and there is no monthly fee.
How big can my catalog be?
It was tested with 10,000 products: a dropdown search takes a few milliseconds in the index plus a constant 30–40 ms to check visibility and prices. Larger catalogs work too; build the index from the admin page or with the --full=Y cron command.
Do I have to rebuild the index after every change?
No. Products, categories, pages, brands and vendors saved in the admin or vendor panel are indexed at once. Only changes made by imports, the REST API or bulk tools need Update changed products or the cron command. Prices and stock are always read live; only the 5-minute suggestion cache may show an old price for a short time (clear it on the add-on page).
Customer groups see different prices. Can a guest see a wholesale price?
No. Answers are cached separately per customer-group combination, and only the guests' answers are marked as cacheable by shared caches; logged-in customers get private answers.
Does it work with the full page cache of CS-Cart 4.21?
Yes. The page output of the add-on is the same for every visitor; suggestions, recent searches and analytics run in the browser by AJAX and local storage.
Can I keep the standard results page?
Yes: set Results page ranking to Standard CS-Cart search. The dropdown keeps working with typo tolerance.
I use Searchanise. Can I use both?
Use one search add-on at a time. If Searchanise is active, this add-on leaves the results page to it.
What do the analytics store about my customers?
Nothing personal: daily totals per search phrase (searches, results, clicks). No IP address, customer ID or cookie. Recent searches stay in the visitor's browser.
What happens if the license lapses?
Without a valid license (no key after the 14-day start period, an invalid or revoked key, a domain the license does not cover, or no successful check for 14 days), the instant search dropdown is hidden and the search results page uses the standard CS-Cart search. Your index, synonyms and search analytics are kept, and the admin page stays available. Once the license is valid again, everything is back.
The admin panel shows a license notice.
Open Add-ons → Manage add-ons → Instant Live Search with Typo Tolerance: the License card at the top says what is wrong: no key, a key for another add-on, a revoked license, or a domain that the license does not cover. Fix it on the License tab and click Check now. See License.
Does the add-on work on my staging copy?
Yes. Subdomains of your licensed domain (for example staging.example.com) and local development hosts (localhost, private IP addresses, .local, .test) are covered by the same license.
What happens if your license server is down?
Nothing changes for 14 days: the add-on keeps working and retries every hour. Only if no check succeeds for 14 days is it switched off until the next successful check.
Does the license check slow down my storefront or checkout?
No. The check runs only in the admin panel or from cron, at most once a day, never while customers browse, search or check out.
